Newage fire brigade inlet connection for risers and hydrant mains
A Newage fire brigade inlet connection, also called a breeching inlet, is fixed at ground level on the outside wall of a building. When the fire brigade arrives, they connect hoses from their engine to its 63 mm male inlets and pump water straight into the building’s riser. On a dry riser, which stays empty until needed, this inlet is the only way water gets in.
It is listed under fire inlets in our fire hydrant fittings range, made by Newage.
How it is built
- 63 mm male instantaneous inlets in gunmetal, each with a non-return valve (NRV) so water cannot flow back out.
- Body in cast iron, SG iron, gunmetal or aluminium alloy, depending on the model.
- Flanged outlet to the riser: 4 inch NB on the 2 way, 6 inch NB on the 3 way and 4 way.
- Blank caps with chains on every inlet to keep out dirt and insects.
- Working pressure 10.5 kg/cm2 (150 psi).
2, 3 or 4 way: choosing the inlet
More inlets let more fire engines feed the riser at the same time. A 2 way unit is common on mid-rise housing and offices. A 3 way suits taller towers and hospitals. A 4 way is used on high-rise buildings, malls and large industrial sites where the riser demand is high. Your fire consultant’s drawing or the local fire department usually fixes the number.
Related riser fittings
Spare blank caps and chains replace lost caps, and an air release valve lets trapped air out at the top of a dry riser. Compare with the SafePro 2 way fire brigade inlet if you need another brand.
