Newage foam making branch pipe: foam from an ordinary hydrant hose
Water alone is a poor choice on burning petrol, diesel or solvents. Foam works better: it floats on the fuel, cuts off air and stops vapour rising. The Newage foam making branch pipe lets you make that foam from a normal 63 mm hydrant hose. It is a low expansion, air-aspirating branch pipe with a built-in foam inductor, pick-up tube and dip pipe, so you only need water pressure and a can of foam concentrate.
Find it under foam equipments, part of fire hydrant fittings from Newage.
How it works
Put the dip pipe in the foam concentrate and charge the hose. As water flows through the branch, the inductor draws concentrate up the pick-up tube and mixes it in. A proportioning valve sets the mix from 0 to 6 percent. Air is pulled in at the barrel, and the mix leaves as finished foam with an expansion of 1:2 to 1:10. A built-in shut-off valve controls the flow at the branch.
FB5X or FB10X?
- FB5X: 225 LPM at 7 bar, throw about 15 m. Lighter, for smaller spills, pump rooms and fuel stations.
- FB10X: 450 LPM at 7 bar, throw about 18 m. Twice the flow for larger bunds, tank areas and loading bays.
The tube is aluminium alloy with a cast bronze inlet, and both models have a 63 mm male instantaneous inlet.
How it differs from a water nozzle
A SuperFire nozzle or spray nozzle only throws water. This branch pipe mixes and aerates foam. For first-aid cover on small fuel fires, a mechanical foam fire extinguisher is also useful.
